Welcome to Kārangaranga
Kārangaranga is the initial meeting place of the adult tuna before they gather at Rangipō, usually in between February and April. Kārangaranga is below Moewhare marae, where once stood the dwelling place of our eponymous ancestor, Tangiharuru. It is also the burial ground of our sixth Paramount Chief, Rākau.
Kārangaranga is the heart of our Middle School, accommodating our Year 5 and 6 students in one class, and Year 7 and 8 students in another. This hub is dedicated to fostering independence and critical thinking through Mahi Auaha (project and assignment-based learning). This approach is deeply intertwined with the Localised Curriculum of Ngāti Manawatanga, ensuring learning is relevant, culturally grounded, and connected to our local environment and history. Noho marae is actioned once a term visiting all four of our Ngāti Manawa Marae and Hapū. Academic success is further supported through a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy.
Sport is a cornerstone of the Kārangaranga experience. Our tamariki engage in various activities, culminating in the annual Fell Cup tournament for Netball and Rugby. Beyond competitive sports, students are introduced to crucial Aquatic Safety Skills and a range of new team sports. A highlight for our senior students is the opportunity for a select cohort of Year 7 and 8 students to participate in the prestigious AIMS Games held in Tauranga.
Knowing our students and their whānau is important to us. We believe in developing caring and respectful relationships and working closely in partnership with you to promote a successful learning community. We welcome parents to help our students in the classroom, and to support trips and other opportunities for Education Outside the Classroom.
Nau mai, kake mai!
